Walnut Creek Middle School introduces Upstander Program
Walnut Creek Middle School put a focus on anti-bullying introducing its Upstander Program this year. The Upstander Program was designed to engage students in meaningful conversations about negative social behavior that leads to bullying.
Students were selected for the program by school staff based on their strong leadership and empathy skills. They then participated in eight hour-long workshops that taught anti-bullying strategies and promoted team building and advocacy against the issue. Some of those workshops discussed the power of words, the danger and impact of misconceptions and stereotypes, and how to spot and stop bullying from happening.
