Walled Lake Central Unified program presented banner to close out 2025

Special Olympics of Michigan celebrated Walled Lake Central’s Unified program on Friday, December 18, presenting the Vikings with their Special Olympics National Unified Champion School banner and ESPN Honor Roll plaque.
Walled Lake Central was named a National Unified Champion School in September, and is one of just 20 schools in the state of Michigan with that distinction. Walled Lake Central earned the title of National Champion Unified School by demonstrating its commitment to inclusion by meeting the ten national standards of excellence: Integrated Sports Offerings, Inclusive Youth Leadership Opportunities, Sustained Whole-School Engagement, Student-Led Activation, Inclusion Campaigns, Collaboration, School Culture of Inclusion, Student Involvement and Planning, Sustainability Plans, and A Self-Sustainable Future.
The Vikings were also recognized by ESPN as one of its Honor Roll schools in October for their outstanding contributions to the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program. Walled Lake Central is one of just 45 schools in the nation and the only one from the state of Michigan to make the 2025 ESPN Honor Roll.
